Normally I'd call that the dumbest single comics moment of the year, but as it happens, thanks to "Rise of Arsenal" #4, it's not even the dumbest comics moment of the week. Bah..... I don't fucking get the hate Rise of Arsenal is getting. It's not supposed to be a feel-good, up-lifting comic. It's all about Roy Harper reacting like any NORMAL SINGLE PARENT WOULD at the revelation that his daughter has been murdered and his arm chopped off.

What's the alternative though? Roy stays in a perma coma? Acts like bendis has Wonder Man act in the wake of Wanda's breakdown, acting like a self-absorbed himbo who refuses to acknowledge his daughter's death because he'd rather be going out with his new fancy gold arm, fighting evil and being a fame whore?

Roy steals Booster's time machine, goes back a couple of days, and "makes it never happened."

If we are going that route of storylines where DC REALIZES that they fucked up and outright rushing a storyline to the newstands where the kid's death is overturned, why not have a Titans/Batman and Robin/JLA X-Over storyline (instead of the lame-ass JLA/JSA one currently going on) where the Titans, the Justice League, and Damian fight the League of Assassins to get access to one of Ra's Al Ghul's Lazerus Pits to resurrect her? Force Morrison to write it, delay the whole Deathstroke/Titans relaunch for a couple of months, and for added bonus points, blacklist Robinson from ever writing in DC again, complete with the bonus fuck you of having Jack Knight show up, completely evil-fied as far as murdering his two kids and his GF and basically running around the pages of "The Blackest Night" as Black Manta's throat slitting buddy? You know, to punish Robinson for thinking such a storyline would work, by ruining his Mary Sue and basically scorch earthing his work in Starman by making Jack Knight a mass murdering super-villain?
Why not do that while we are wishing for things?
(And Roy can't steal the time machine Booster is using even if he could; Rip Hunter would kill him, what with the way Hunter believes that time travel can't be used to help people, just cause misery and suffering)
As much as I would LIKE for DC to reverse the death, at the very least DC is avoiding making a bad situation WORSE by having Roy react in as normal fashion imaginable.

First off, turning Jack evil won't punish Robinson at all, since:
A) He isn't using the character anyway B) The Starman royalties (if he gets any) will keep coming.
But I can bring back Lian Harper with 4 words:
Vandal Savage has her.
Remember that Devin Grayson Arsenal mini, when we discovered he (and Lian) were distant descendants of Savage? I could easily see him kidnapping her to use as genetic stock for his organ cloning experiments.
As a bonus, the same technology could give Roy back his arm.

But Talia makes more sense IMHO. Especially since A.) You can have Damian come up with the idea (making Damian more sympathetic in the process) and B. get a massive Batman/Titans/JLA X-Over out of it.

Quick Check - who had December 2010 in the Wildstorm deathwatch pool? My quick thoughts on the subject: Most of the licensing going directly to DC is good news for just about everyone. As far as "Wildstorm but not really" properties, there are two big question marks that I'm wondering about, and if anyone has the answers I'm listening. What's going to happen to: 1) Kurt Busiek's Astro City 2) The ABC imprint formerly belonging to Alan Moore (I only ask this because I'm hoping for more Peter Hogan material after Robots of Doom, which has been uniformly excellent) Otherwise, I see this as mostly good news for DC on the movie side of things, and not so good news on the comics side as it shows the increasing isolation and marginalization of the comics crew.

Addendum to the Wildstorm post: I know this should probably go without saying, but to the 20% of DC staff that gets cut in this deal, it's a rough thing and of course, best wishes to them in what is and will continue to be a hard time.

The Rise of Arsenal is stupid because it was unnecessary.
In the first place, a lot of work went into finally moving Roy into the Red Arrow spot. Why screw it up? In the second place, well, Roy has no real study girlfriend, gee what female figure in life can we kill, furthering DC's misogyny. In the third place... it's fucking Arsenal. It's not like he's an a-lister or even really the potential to be an a-lister. He's a team character, and works well that way.
The whole point is to draw in new readers. Right? Well, who cares? It's fucking Arsenal. The guys name begins with Arse. Oooh look. He's got a drug problem. How edgy! Ooh look...he hates the world now. He's stoned out of his mind!
Just give him to Ostrander now and let him kill him off in style, and then focus on the primary character of that group. Ollie.

So Wildstorm is gone now.
And here comes Bob Harris as the new EIC at DC.
This is a monumentally stupid idea.

Hiring Bob Harras as EiC of DC is like hiring Joel Schumacher to direct the Spider-Man reboot. Their past resumes are reason enough why they should never be allowed any creative control over anything higher than managing a Subway restaurant. The only time anyone should ever refer to either man as an "artist" is if the word "sandwich" immediately precedes it.

<Tennant>What ... what? ...What?</tennant>
I don't necessarily think that this is a BAD idea, per se (though I was never a big Harras fan), but this is certainly ... unexpected.

Because I'm too lazy to start another Oddsmaking thread, that's why. OK, so based on Kirk's recent post box-in-the-box.livejournal.com/484016.htmlAnd the original source www.bleedingcool.com/2011/02/11/marvel-were-going-to-kill-a-character-every-quarter/We can start the pool on which major characters are going to be offed and how. Now, judging by the update at Bleeding Cool, it's looking like Ult.Spidey is going to be the first to go under the new "Marvel Character Sacrifice to Appease the gods!" market plan...but as for after that? Well, here's my bet. Storm. Ororo Monroe. My arguement is as follows: 1) She's not currently involved in any major books - because "Mutant with the ability to alter the environment on a whim" doesn't fit in with the current "T'Challa: Man without Fear" thing, and she's been regulated to the sidelines in the X-books. 2) She's the only character outside of Spider-Man that believes that Killing all the time isn't super-awesome! And Spider-Man's only allowed to have that opinion because, well, according to Marvel he's incompetent. 3) OMG! More angst/Drama for T'Challa if she dies! And the X-Men! Oh My God the specials! The Specials they can sell! The Tie ins! Maybe T-Shirts! 4) Killing the first black female superheroine, played by Academy Award Winner Halle Berry, the most high profile female Marvel comic character is pretty much the definition of the highest profile death in the mainstream media they could hope for. So, yeah, that's my bet - what's yours?

So, yeah, that's my bet - what's yours? James Buchanan Barnes. Why? 1. Bru doesn't seem to have any long term plans for him. He barely has a supporting cast. 2. EVERY OTHER Cap book on the stands is starring Steve. 3. Steve needs more angst. This is the Heroic Age, after all. 4. There's this movie coming out...
