Davies has actually gone on the record saying that the great David Warner was one of his early choices for the Doctor, but he was literally afraid that the stress of the nonstop Who work environment would kill him. (Mind you, this is one of the hardest-working men in show business, and someone who survived a James Cameron shoot, so maybe Davies was exaggerating. Pity, though; Warner would make a GREAT Doctor.) He strikes me more as the Master. Possibly because he sounds faintly menacing even when he's playing a nice guy.

Although I'm tickled pink by the thought of Paterson Joseph, especially in the outfit above. I Youtubed up his intro in Neverwhere. Very smooth. If he does get the role, and has a similar persona, it could be interesting. Consider this: First incarnation: A bit dark, dressed simply, shortish hair. Second incarnation: A bit of a clown, with floppy hair and a distinctive brown coat. Third: A dandy with long curly hair. Am I talking the relaunch... or the original series?

So basically, the US cling to the British Imperial system because deep inside, you Americans still want to be part of the British Empire. Nah, we're just stubborn.

FYI, England is the only country in Europe too backwards and uncivilized to use the Metric system. They insist on doing it the American way, with that stupid (what do you call your feeble excuse for a measuring system anyway)? "Imperial/English units" That being said, the UK is officially metric, along with every other country except the US, Liberia, and Myanmar. They are just really inefficient at switching over.

The damage has already been done. Why would Bendis slow down now? Because he's not a pet character from the 1970's?

Possibly. Or maybe they'll bring Topaz out of limbo (Jennifer Kale is tied up in Marvel Zombies at the moment).
The worst choice, of course, is the obvious one:
Wanda Maximoff.

Given the revelation of who empowers him? Unlikely, unless Bendis goes for a face turn (which basically throws away the entire concept of the character).
I'm betting it'll be a female character. That's the trend these days, no?
(although I liked the idea of Brother Voodoo getting the nod)

Thanks, all.
It was a good day, on the balance.

I'm not so sure about the Leo=Lex thing. If there was a hint somewhere that Lex had a time machine, that would be different, but without that throwaway hint, you have to make too many assumptions.
I prefer to think of Leo as Lex's "dark mirror". What he could have been, had he chosen to live up to his potential, rather than wasting time trying to kill Superman.

Maddy Pryor is also a vague possibility, although I'm not sure if hshe's actually a mutant.

I've read the manga. It wasn't bad at all. I think the term "goth" has moved so far away from the original meaning that hardly anyone still associates it with the Germanic tribe. Even I did a second's double-take before I realized what you meant with that.

I can think of a small handful of writers who could possibly take on the task... Colfer isn't one of them. Don't get me wrong, he writes well, but he's the entirely wrong style.
(Terry Jones, OTOH...)
I'm just counting my blessings that they didn't get Kevin J. Anderson....

Okay, forget it. I checked. James Mullaney was, the last time I looked, an unreadable mouth-frothing jingoist, in his own way as awful as the writer who followed him. As a matter of fact, I would have dropped the series sooner if I hadn't heard that Mullaney was getting replaced. Fair enough. I haven''t read the books in years myself, so I'm hardly in a position to judge.

I'm told (by those in the know) that the writers of the recent relaunch have brought the books back to their usual level of quality.

Am I the only person who sees "The Mentalist" and thinks "Psych with added grim?"
