Completely agreed. Wasn't Fraction given the New Invincible Iron Man gig specifically because they wanted to make the comics IM closer to the movie version instead of the Iron Fascist verion? I remember reading something like that when they launched that one as a companion piece to Iron Fascist -- Master of SHIELD.

I'd be impressed if they made it a parody of Norman Spinrad's The Iron Dream.

At least they missed the 70-year anniversary of the start of WWII.
By a few days.

OK...so I just caught the last 25 minutes of an episode of Stargate Universe and...yeah, the amount of stylistic lifting from "BSG" is almost as bad as the lifting the original BSG series did from Star Wars.
Anyone else see this? Thoughts?

Anyone else see this? Thoughts? AND NOW I PRESENT THE MINUTES FROM THE SYFY MEETING THAT CREATED STARGATE UNIVERSE: EXECUTIVE 1: SO, WE THROW OUT EVERYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE FRANCHISE, WHICH IS THE STARGATES THEMSELVES, AND TURN IT INTO A SPACESHIP WHOSE CREW IS TRYING TO SURVIVE ON LIMITED RESOURCES! EXECUTIVE 2: BRILLIANT! AND THAT'S NOT A RIPOFF OF BATTLESTAR GALACTICA AT ALL! WE STILL NEED SOMETHING MORE, THOUGH ... EXECUTIVE 1: I HAVE IT! THE CENTRAL CHARACTER WILL BE A GENIUS DOCTOR WHO DOESN'T GET ALONG WITH MILITARY AUTHORITY AND TREATS EVERYONE AROUND HIM LIKE AN ASSHOLE, EXCEPT HE'LL HAVE ONE SIDEKICK - A "COMPANION," IF YOU WILL - WHO'S ABLE TO PUT UP WITH HIS BULLSHIT AND SERVE AS A BUFFER BETWEEN HIM AND EVERYONE ELSE! EXECUTIVE 2: BRILLIANT! AND HE CAN HAVE A BRITISH ACCENT! EXECUTIVE 1: OR SCOTTISH, EITHER ONE. BUT WHAT SHOULD HIS LAST NAME BE? HE' A DOCTOR, SO "DOCTOR" ... WHO?

I think the scientist is more a Faux Baltar than a Faux Doctor Except that Dr. Baltar, while brilliant, did not exactly have a stellar batting average even at the best of times, whereas Dr. Rush (played by Robert Carlyle, who is ALWAYS mentioned as a candidate for The Next Doctor), is so consistently correct that it's actually become a source of conflict within the show itself, not only for the fact that Rush treats everyone around him like dogshit precisely because both he and they know that they have NO CHOICE but to put up with his abuse (Baltar NEVER had the balls to physically assault people who were crowding him, whereas Rush does this FREQUENTLY, and even the military members of the group just silently TAKE IT), but also because, in the latest episode, Rush is suspected of actually being EVEN SMARTER than he let's on (and everyone there already treats him as a beyond-Einstein genius), to the point that the group is now completely mistrustful of him. Seriously, it's like they took one look at Doctor Who, and decided to amp up the Mary Sue levels of FUCK YOU I'M A GENIUS SO I CAN CALL YOUR MOTHER A WHORE TO YOUR FACE AND YOU'LL HAVE TO THANK ME FOR IT consequence-free assholishness to about 11. Baltar was driven by the fear of being found out as a fraud, on a number of levels. Rush has even less fear than Carlyle's character of "Begbie" in Trainspotting.

This and your previous post on the subject make me ask the question: if you hate it so much, why do you watch it, instead of something you have some hope of liking?
