This was originally posted Aug. 31, two months ago to the day, and yet, this is the first that I'm hearing about it.
How is that even possible, considering that my own astonishing narcissism causes me to Google myself constantly?
The sad thing is? I'm such a shameless Attention Whore that I actually think this is 100-percent awesome.

Not thrilled and not furious.
Not thrilled because this paits an unflattering and yet accurate enough picture of you two in what, for you, is normal fanboy mode that you don't have the right to be furious.
And the fact that you're getting called on it by outsiders shouldn't make you feel thrilled, but rather ashamed.
(That is, if the person writing that hadn't come across as a big douche in that column.)
Rather, you should take a break and wonder if this is really how you want to be seen by the world.
And yes, I mean both of you.

Jens - I might give this guy more credence, except that, by his account, he only knows me from Famboy Rampage and Savage Critics, so since Fanboy Rampage has been dead for years, and I comment on Savage Critics maybe once or twice per two to three months, he's basing a lot of his animus toward me on what is, in Internet terms, ancient history.
I don't devote blog posts to attacking, say, Nick Locking, because it's been just as long since I've read anything written by him - which means that this guy has an even lower threshold for flip-his-shit fixation than I do, and that's really saying something.

Yeah, but has your style changed noticably since then?

Reading the article to get some context:
1) OK, so you are being lumped in with Halo comics by Bendis, Ruins, and Thundercats comics. Ouch.
2) Well, this guy just mocked Canada and Canadian history, so that's a big strike against.
3)OK, so you are also being lumped in with Alan David Doane, Mike Sterling, and Johanna Draper Carlson, whom are pretty much some of the best comic bloggers out there, and among the ones I read DAILY. Yeah, I'd consider that a compliment, given the "tastes" this guy is expressing.
Honestly, who cares? I've tried reading the CBR blog to find it banal, obsessed with "mainstream" (Marvel/DC/Image, FOOLS!) tastes, and really not at all that exciting.
See, this is why I stay away from most of the "name" websites and forum like Newsrama and CBR and don't comment, because I can't be bothered to care to what the fellow commenters and readers think, hence why I only post here (where I happen to at least respect the people on this forum) or on a few other blogs that I think are generally worthy of merit.
Pay it no mind, and move along, I say.

I kind of thought that if he'd written it as is, plus. " AND WILL FUCK YOUR MOM IF SHE LOOKS LIKE LIZ SLADEN BECAUSE I'M A LIBERAL RACIST AND I HAVE THE NUSPIDEY NUMBERS TO PROVE IT," his portrayal of Kirk would've been dead-on.

Yeah, but has your style changed noticably since then? Better to say that my style on those fora was, by necessity, the short-form version of who I am. Which, incidentally, is probably part of why I've started posting less and less on places outside of LJ, this forum and a couple of others, since I like being able to write at length about certain subjects, without feeling like I'm subjecting everyone else to an OT rant gone wrong. Hell, I used to check the comics news sites daily, and now, I'll go days or weeks at a time without checking them, and even longer without posting on them, and I really don't miss it. For example, aside from cross-posting my sales analyses, there's no reason for me to post on Alvaro's ComicBoards about Spider-Man, because the battle lines have already been drawn on that one. In fact, I think scans_daily might very well be the only purely comic-centric site that I do post on anymore, simply because 90 percent of what I feel like saying on most comics fora would be an exercise in futility anyway - I hate comics now for the same reason that a majority of remaining readers seem to love the shit out of them, and very little is going to change either of our minds. The only times I bother to argue on s_d anymore are when people say things so jaw-droppingly stupid that I can't quite bring myself to accept that they're entitled to their own opinions, but otherwise, the reason I take exception to this column attacking me is because it's essentially attacking a ghost, because as far as comics fandom is concerned, I'm practically out the door now as it is.

... "Racist"? I mean, the rest is pretty accurate (except you forgot "I WAS IN TEH MILITARY!!!111"), but ... "racist"? Really?

You're oversimplifying, Anders. The biggest difference between then and now is that I'm talking in essays more than in sound-bites now, and I think that makes my writing better, because even if people disagree with me, they can see what's driving my arguments. If somebody still thinks I'm crazy now, after listening to my extended arguments, then no, I have no regrets, because barring an inability to understand on their part, or a failure to articulate myself properly, I have no interest in appeasing anyone who decides they don't like me because they accurately understand what my opinion is and how I arrived at it. There are more than a few occasions when there are missed signals, and if it's my fault, I apologize for it, but I refuse to apologize to anyone who really does get what I'm trying to say, and is offended as a result. As a journalist for more than a decade (yes, "I WORK FOR A NEWSPAPER!!!"), for both the Navy and as a civilian, I have to filter pretty much everything I might think about saying, so I have neither the patience nor the willingness to censor myself in any context whatsoever outside of my job.

I think what people react negatively to is your tone more than the content. Calling your readers whores in caps isn't really a good way to make them take you seriously.

I think what people react negatively to is your tone more than the content. Calling your readers whores in caps isn't really a good way to make them take you seriously. Anybody who thinks I'm being stone-faced serious when I type in all-caps and refer to people as "whores" has pretty much missed their ticket to ride on The Clue Express to begin with. I like venting, and I like going over the top, but I also like taking shots at myself for doing so ... so, yeah, once I start using TEH instead of "the" or ending my sentences with EXCLAMATION POINTS FOLLOWED BY ONES!!!111, I would assume that it would be fairly obvious to anyone with even a remedial Sarcasm Detector that, however genuine my NERD RAGE!!!111 might be, I'm also acknowledging my own absurdity in the process. I mean, come the fuck on. I already KNOW that YOUR Irony Filter is more finely tuned than that. And if somebody else's isn't? Then fuck 'em; if they can't get something so blatantly obvious, then they're so dumb that they don't deserve to be talked to.

I'm not saying I think you're serious; I'm saying your tone is a problem whether one takes it seriously or not.
Hell, Kirk, I like you, and I think you're right more often than not, but sometimes the way you write annoys the fuck out of me.
