Interesting thread. I see Michael as more of a John Stewart, as an engineer whose team player instincts are arguably stronger than those of any of the characters more commonly identified as the leaders of the group. I'll echo Jens as Martian Manhunter, because while there's plenty of unrest under the surface, he does a remarkably good job of maintaining a professional air about him, even in the face of assholes. I don't think I even need to elaborate on why I agree with Jard as Hawkman and Paul as Green Arrow. Ditto Anders as Wally West. It just fits. I'd actually cast either Jesse or myself as Ambush Bug.

Jesse as Ambush Bug works extremely well. To be honest, the best Jesse analogue ever mentioned was his own comparison of himself to Daffy Duck. Though you as Luthor and him as Joker is also quite adept .

Stewart is an Architect (also a Marine...) neither of which I am - but ok. Interesting enough.
Cool thread - it's interesting how some people have clear identities (Jard, Jens, Paul, Anders), and the rest of us are all over the map. Interesting to see other POVs.

The other interesting part is to see just to which extent the self-image differs from how others see us. The way you guys describe me -- that's not me at all. At least not the me that I see.

and now...the KboxVengers!
I spent a solid week thinking about this one - let's face it, the Avengers, have lot of characters whom are, shall we say, less than flattering. So I tried by best.
Kirk = Thor - Founding member, respected, if occassionally held at a distance because he's a bit overdramatic.
Anders = Beast - Really, if you have a problem with Hank McCoy, something is wrong with you. In that same way, Anders is the guy you can't help but get along with.
Jard = Hawkeye (Yeah, go figure, he's a Hawk-guy in both big teams) - What you have to understand about Hawkeye is that he'll take on anyone, even when he knows he's outvoted, out powered, and outmanned...and he'll still hit his mark.
Jens = Black Panther (T'Challa) - Rational, calculating, and totally unafraid to outmaneuver anyone by thinking three steps ahead and call people out on their BS.
Jesse = Namor. In the same way that you have to like the Beast, if you haven't had a problem with Namor, for thinking he's smarter and better than you (when he frequently isn't) - well, that's Jesse.
Paul Pogue = Captain America (Steve Rogers) - the guy who's usually in the moral right and reminds us all why we're here.
Mario = Iron Man (Tony Stark) - the smart guy who frequently reminds you just how smart he is.
Need to think about Johann and Joe some more. Sorry. Your turn.

On the other hand, Michael, Avengers gives you the entire Marvel Universe to choose from. Since everyone has been an Avenger at one time or another. Michael gives me too much credit. I'd see myself as The Hulk. Ordinarily, Bruce Banner, smart, well-educated. But with a temper, and you won't like me when I'm angry. Michael = My choice for Captain America, for the same reasons why he picked Paul for the role. Kirk = Thor works, yes. A bit pompous at times, a bit overdramatic on occasion, but usually respected. Paul = Falcon. Not in the sense of being Captain America's sidekick, since Falcon has been his own man for quite some time now. But rather, he's like Captain America, but where Cap sees the Nation as a whole, Falcon has more a street-eye view of it, and a bit more social awareness. Jesse = Quicksilver. Brash, impatient, quick to anger and prone to bad decisions. Anders = I like Beast in this context, and second the motion. If Michael hadn't suggested Beast, I would have picked Hercules, because like Beast, if you don't like Herc... But Beast works very very well. Jard = I see Jard more as Wonder Man. Joe = Ant-Man (Pym). His contributions are valuable, but he's easy to overlook. Johann = Like Michael, I'm not exactly sure. I'm somewhat inclined to pick Starfox, because both know what pleases them and are unafraid to pursue it. Mario = How about Vision instead of Stark? Basically, Vision has the heart and soul that Stark frequently seems to lack.

I'm starting to think we should, just for the heck of it, create our Kbox Injustice League and our Masters of KBox.
I'll keep this in mind for when we're done with the Avengers.
Michael: Legion of Super-Kbox?

Basically, Vision has the heart and soul that Stark frequently seems to lack. Actually, there are more than a few heroes who haven't been Avengers - most of the X-Men, Daredevil, the Runaways, etc.... More than that, I was trying to work within a framework of using very "Classic" Avengers - which is to say, Pre-Bendis Era. And while I debated on using the Hulk, his membership was two? Two and a half issues? I tried to keep it to characters whom had a history of being Avengers, and not just people who were awarded a rare reserve membership (Spider-Man, Sandman), had a very short stint (three of the FF), or were awarded the membership postthumously (Captain Mar-Vell). Your reasons for Quicksilver are pretty much the same as mine for Namor. I really never get a sense of Wonder Man having a personality, so I figured rabble-rousing Hawkeye made a better pick for Jard. Or you know, USAgent.... I avoided using Vision and Pym because I know those characters have bits of their histories that might be a bit...troublesome to make comparisons to. But overall, good picks Jens.

Actually, there are more than a few heroes who haven't been Avengers - most of the X-Men, Daredevil, the Runaways, etc.... I was riffing on a joke Moon Knight made once: that in order to be taken seriously as a superhero, you had to have been an Avenger once. More than that, I was trying to work within a framework of using very "Classic" Avengers - which is to say, Pre-Bendis Era. What do you mean by that? Bendis never wrote Avengers. Repeat after me: Bendis never wrote Avengers. And while I debated on using the Hulk, his membership was two? Two and a half issues? Still, Founding Member. Your reasons for Quicksilver are pretty much the same as mine for Namor. Very much so, yes. The difference is that while Namor and Quicksilver are very similar, Namor has earned his attitude to a certain extent, while Pietro... may be competent, but he has more of a history of being hot air and letting his arrogance get in the way of actually accomplishing something. I really never get a sense of Wonder Man having a personality, so I figured rabble-rousing Hawkeye made a better pick for Jard. Or you know, USAgent.... I actually considered USAgent, but decided that Jard is definitely not a Glenn Beck-worshiping wannabe Cap. I avoided using Vision and Pym because I know those characters have bits of their histories that might be a bit...troublesome to make comparisons to. Pym's hand slipped once while he was having a nervous breakdown. I may be unique that way, but unlike the rest of comicdom, I don't see that as his defining characteristic. I had considered using Scott Lang instead of Pym, because I always liked Scott better than Hank, but it was precisely because Hank never really got the respect he deserved that I picked him here. The troublesome parts of Vision's history must've happened during the 10 years from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s that I didn't read comics, I don't know what you're referring to.

Kirk is The Wasp.
Good leadership skills, more down to Earth then mostly appears to be, often seems more interested in somewhat hedonistic lifestyle.
Anders is Cap.
The grown up of the group. Likable. Easy to follow.
Mario is Pym, 1st Yellowjacket era. Pre-Shooter.
I have no real justification for this. But seriously, that was the first thing that popped into my head.
Jens is the Vision.
Because Jens is the logical one. The one who cuts through a lot of the BS.
Jesse is Hawkeye.
The original hothead. No other character besides Green Arrow comes across as the prototypical hothead. Not even Wildfire or The Human Torch.
Paul is The Scarlet Witch.
Rational, calm (and yes this is before Bendis fucked up the character. Wanda has prototypically been characterized as the calm and cool one in general. Not very easily rattled. ) and also, family oriented.
Michael is Iron Man/Stark
And again, no real explanation. Just feels right.
Jard is Wonder Man.
Circa the Shooter/Byrne Nefaria story line? Yeah. It fits.

I'll second Anders as Beast, Jens as Vision and Jesse as Hawkeye, even though I'm amused by how well Michael argued in favor of having a relative conservative like Jard as Hawkeye and a German guy like Jens as an African king. Also, Pogue as Cap and Michael as Tony just feels right. I'm surprised that Mario, as the Simonson fan, hasn't been cast as Thor instead.

I don't look through it through the political lens (aside from which, Hawkeye's not a guy I woulc necessarily consider liberal).
Here's the thing - Hawkeye is far and away the LEAST powerful Avenger - no powers, no "peak human physical conditioning", just a bow and arrow (some of them tricked out, granted) and BALLS.
