So I've been getting Son-Of-Mine an array of Speed Racer toys as of late. The best one is a 16-inch Mach 5 that he gleefully pushes around everywhere. (The one good thing to come from the failure of the film is all the expensive toys on clearance -- the 5 ran me ten bucks, and if I felt like coughing up another ten, I could get the 6 as well.)
I bought a few of the Hot Wheels Pullback Speed Racers -- you know, the kind that you draw back on the floor, and then they zoom off. Armand managed to tear the wheels off within a couple of days. Okay, Hot Wheels toys being cheap, no surprise there. But I also got a bunch of McDonald's Happy Meal Speed Racer toys, and not only do they LOOK better, they're a HELL of a lot more durable than the Hot Wheels ones. Since when does a McDonald's toy from a $3 Happy Meal work better than the $4 ones from Toys R Us?
(The special features are really nifty, too; the Mach 6 has turbo boost on its pullback feature; Togokhan's car races in Matrix-spin vision; the Gray Ghost has external exploding armor that looks like the 1989 Batmobile armor. The Mach 4 is the only one that doesn't roll on its own, but that's okay, because after the film, the 4 is my favorite, god help me. I'd totally spend $30 to get a 16-inch version of that.)

Since McDonalds' Happy Meals, being rather directly marketed to very small children, is more likely to get sued when some toddler chokes on a loose wheel?
