I just read the first issue of this and I have to say, the damn thing had maybe one or two pages worth reading.
Do they really think this is what women want to read? Seriously?
Where's the asskicking? Where's the bad guys? Where's the bits about life as a woman that isn't about dating men or wanting to date men or you know ... men...
I have to say that the only bit in this whole thing that was worth anything was the last page and even then...

Yes. In the same way they think that the post-OMD Parker is someone that the average 20-something male can relate to, or the way they think Norman Osborn is a tragic hero, or they think the Sentry is cool.

"Suddenly ... CANCER!"
I swear, this is what happens when you let people whose only exposure to real culture is via TV and comic books.
Also includes one of the dumbest lines ever in a comic book: "Why do you have an oncologist?" WHY DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ONCOLOGIST?

Whenever I read any trying-so-hard-to-be-serious-that-it-hurts storyline, the first thing I think of should NOT be, "Funky Winkerbean did it better."

The whole re-imagining of Monica Rambeau as Angela Davis isn't exactly working out, either. A close read of Warren Ellis' Nextwave will indicate that he actually steered well clear of race when doing Monica's characterization, and hell, anyone counting on Nextwave, a just-barely-in-continuity comedy book to begin with, to reimagine a character should probably think long and hard about what they're doing to begin with.
Except for Machine Man. Die-Fleshy-Things Machine Man is awesome. But angry-black-woman Monica is not.

Well the reason that at least was halfway interesting, is because Firestar does have a history in regards with worrying about her powers being a cancer risk, both for herself and people around her. Not just in New Warriors issues, but it was dealt with when she was a member of the Avengers, as well.
