Note to self: In interviews, movie directors don't like it when they mention the wonderful subversive new approach they have to a subject matter, and the interviewer mentions that this approach has been used since the 1950s. HAHAHAHAHA THEREBY HANGS A TALE

HAHAHAHAHA THEREBY HANGS A TALE Let's just say it was something of a knee-jerk reaction from a quasi-retired former writer upon hearing that Stephenie Meyer's work is in any way original or subversive.

Note to Jonathan Hickman: You are not Steven Moffat - please stop trying.
So, I thought I'd give Hickman a try with "The Red Wing" to see if it's just that his Marvel writing is uninspired, but if his indy stuff was better.
Turns out, not so much.
I get that he's trying for a "Primer" level of timey-winey confusion and paradox making...the problem?
HE FAILS.
On every level - this story needed to be twice as long, and actually had to build some character depth, and maybe have art that didn't make every single male character identical to actually help clear up what the hell happened and why I should care.
That is all.

Oh, god, you called out Condon on the birthing scene, didn't you? (Seriously, all of his "it's scarier the LESS you see" talk seems to me to be just a lame cover for "no fucking way were we going to film this as written and get away with a PG-13.")

Been a busy week with the new gig and a few other odds and ends, but boy did I want to address this. www.comicsalliance.com/2011/11/08/war-rocket-ajax-21-matt-fraction-and-the-fear-itself-exit-in/OK, maybe someone has listened to this - I actually don't care about the context, but let me share you the quote: He's talking about fear itself and how it's about fighting the urge to join the mob mentality. Now, about this: 1) Matt, thank you very much for confirming that "Fear Itself" was a retread of "Final Crisis" because that's more or less the same inspiration Morrison had. 2) Matt, your story communicated none of this shit because it focused on superpeople and gods doing thing and not the human or emotional factors you wanted to address. You failed to tell the story. 3) Matt, you realize you are writing about the Marvel Universe? Where the mob mentality is the DEFAULT EMOTIONAL SETTING of like, 90% of the population that thinks that hanging a mutant every 30 minutes is a great plan? Just, you know, FYI.

Is anyone here (still? I think this has been up before, years ago) playing City of Heroes?

It's free with up to two characters (and not access to quite all zones, I think, but those are exceptions) these days. I'm still paying since I have a severe case of altitis and I play it enough for it to be worth the money.

"Angering Powerful people in charge of Shadowy Organizations is pretty much my hobby" - Atomic Robo, Atomic Robo and the Ghost of Station X issue 3.
I now declare this the greatest line of dialogue in a comic book for 2011, and possibly the last decade.

Just saw the Tintin movie in digital 3D. Much better than I expected it to be after seeing clips on TV. Was also the first time I watched a movie in 3D; pricey but worth it (for real 3D, anyway).

The trailer I saw made me very skeptical, but the guy who runs my LFCS who is a serious Tintin fan really liked it. He also said it was a different thing from the comics, though.

Can't do a one to one comparison since I haven't read The Secret of the Unicorn album yet.
