... Because he'll be undergoing an angiogram tomorrow.
The doctors' theory is that his recent chest pains - which were severe enough to wake him up in the middle of the night - were the result of a blood vessel not sending enough oxygen to wherever, so, yeah, they're going to try and fix that.
Mom and Dad reassured me that he should only be in the hospital a couple of days, and that this is the type of procedure that only has a one-in-a-thousand chance of anything going wrong.
This does NOT reassure me, in no small part because I'm genre-savvy enough to know by now that, whenever somebody says, "There's almost no chance that anything could go wrong," that's like staying at Camp Crystal Lake and leaving an open invitation on your cabin door for Jason Voorhees to assrape you with a machete while you're sleeping.
It would be much more comforting for me to believe that there is some sort of benevolent, protective force out there that I could ask to look after my dad, but I find it easier to believe in the existence of Sasquatch than in that of a just or loving God, so in times like this, I turn to positive energy, because in spite of my own cynicism, I think it can work, which is why I'm asking for all of you to donate some positive energy of your own to my dad, in the hopes that those good vibrations will ... I don't know, cushion him against negative probabilities somehow.
He'd find this funny, since he's a total atheist, as opposed to my own agnostic-leaning-toward-atheist tendencies.
So, that's my request.

Update on my dad:
He's resting comfortably after having two stints put into his heart.
Of course, this means he'll be laid up in the hospital overnight, but it beats the alternative.
Thank you to everyone who contributed positive vibes on his behalf.
