And it wasn't even close.
All week there's been an overhyped bitchfest between the Daily Show and CNBC over the Daily Show's commentary on CNBC's failures in the current economy, and it all came to a head tonight with Cramer coming onto the Daily Show for nearly the full airtime (and beyond - I can't access the show footage from outside the US, so we'll have to wait until YouTube puts the thing up).
And Stewart proceeds to beat Cramer to a bloody pulp. I can't imagine what Cramer was thinking - I mean, earlier he had been on Joe Scarborough's show, so unless Scar was nuts, he should have warned Kramer that when the Daily Show wants to, they can do their homework and fucking END YOU on TV.
The last time Jon beat a man this hard on air was Bill Bennet.
I'll put the up the Ownage clips when they hit Youtube. Peace all..
Michael

That was pretty nasty. I loved the fact that they had footage of him admitting to being involved with some shady financial dealings. Good, good stuff.

... Jesus Christ, I haven't seen anyone get raped that hard onscreen since Jodie Foster's character in The Accused.
And unlike Jodie Foster's character, Cramer was ASKING FOR IT.

I think a lot of people underestimate Stewart because he hosts a comedy show but anyone who's watched a couple of his interviews with serious guests - General Musharraf, Tony Blair, the ex-Presidents - should know how sharp he is.
Personally, I think he's the single best interviewer I've heard or seen, period. He knows what he's talking about, and though he asks hard and sometimes provocative questions he always shows his guests a lot of respect.

See, I think most nights he's a Leno-esque Softballer as an interviewer. In fact, I would say many of those interviews you listed he comes off as well, a guy who's just trying to entertain more than enlighten. But on those occassions where the show producers think they can get away with it, Stewart can knock someone out of the park.

Sure, most of the time it's just entertainment - obviously they want people to keep coming there to pitch their books and such - but I don't think he's just doing fluff pieces. In the interview with Tony Blair from last year is solid. He's not throwing softballs; he's asking real questions and not just accepting canned answers to those questions. But maybe I'm just taken in with the hype.

I made a point to watch Cramer's own show the next day, to see if he responded at all. He didn't, aside from a couple of passive-aggressive digs ("Pardon me for trying to be entertaining"). It was pretty much back to business as usual, wacky sound effects and all. Any sympathy I might've had for him after he got spanked so thoroughly went right out the window. I can't believe anyone will still take him seriously after this. But then, I dunno why anyone took him seriously in the first place.

Rumor around the news sources has it that NBC stations were under strict orders not to discuss the throwdown on their shows the next day. I can certainly see that -- Morning Joe on MSNBC, which has been coming to Cramer's defense all week, didn't mention it at all. The only NBC show I saw that even mentioned it was a few minutes from Rachel Maddow, who clearly didn't get the memo.
