So, after procrastinating like hell, I finally decided to transfer my old files onto my new computer this weekend.
And the end result was that I had to do a complete system restore to fix my computer afterwards.
With the old computer, I was constantly plagued by inexplicable problems, which ranged from minor but unfixable glitches to the sorts of major crashes that finally put it down for good.
At several points, I thought to myself, "Maybe it's my old data," since the computer would start going buggy whenever I transferred those files onto a new drive, but the computer guy who fixed my machine never had any problems when he downloaded those same files onto his machines, and I ran those files through multiple virus scans and the like, and they all came back clean.
That being said, there really wasn't any other way to interpret it this time; literally as soon as I transferred the files onto my new computer, it would crash whenever I tried to use Windows Media Player, even after I deleted the files, so, fuck it, since I hadn't really saved any new files onto my new computer, I just figured it was better to be safe than sorry, and I restarted from zero.
So, I'm now faced with the task of rebuilding my massive collection ofporn files (no, really ... at least some small percentage of them weren't porn), but fortunately, that's more a matter of time than of anything really major being Lost To The Aether for good, since even most of my writing gets posted online.
I'm of two minds about it: on the one hand, it's more than a bit of a pain in the ass, but by the same token, it makes me realize that some of the ways I was classifying my old files made it that much more difficult to just download them and save them, so it's kind of nice, in that sense, to have a fresh start of sorts.
I already downloaded the complete online artwork archive of The Pitt last night, and I'm looking forward to doing the same with the artists of Catthouse Studios ...
