He got laid off at the end of the year, with about six weeks of severance pay, but he's just been hired by Nintendo. He'd apparently applied for a job as a test engineer, but they made him a compliance manager instead, which means they're going to pay him more than he was asking for.
It was weird, having a job when my dad didn't, since that's never happened to me before, and I didn't like the idea of being more "adult" than my dad by any possible criterion, but once more, our proper roles are safely ensconced.
