How nerds commemorate the inauguration: So, the closest I came to watching the inauguration was doing a news story on other people watching the inauguration, so instead of coming up with original thoughts of my own, I thought I'd just steal a couple of issue-relevant webcomics that got posted on scans_daily: ... Because, really, you owe it to yourself to learn the difference. And while I've seen our new president compared to a certain Time Lord quite a few times, this is the first time I've seen his life story likened to that of another sci-fi character:

Greetings, neocon commentators, and welcome to Sore Loser Town. Population: YOU. Fox News' Chris Wallace: Is Obama even president?"Well, again, we're wondering here whether or not Barack Obama in fact is the president of the United States," Chris Wallace told Fox News viewers, well over an hour after Obama had taken the oath of office today. Fox News replayed the swearing-in moment when President Obama and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. each bobbled the words to the constitutional oath. "They had a kind of garbled oath," Wallace said. "It's just conceivable that this will end up going to the courts," Wallace speculated. A bit of wishful thinking on behalf of (presumably conservative) Fox viewers? Perhaps. But Wallace quickly added: "As Brit Hume rightly pointed out, if it goes to the Supreme Court, certainly Chief Justice Roberts will say that he took the oath."
Oh, neocons ... your desperation reeks of stale sweat, cigarettes and defeat.

Weird thoughts in the wake of our new president's inauguration ... I just realized that this is the first time in my lifetime that I've had a MILF as First Lady. It feels vaguely Oedipal, in a way that even I'm not used to, but ... it doesn't feel bad. You go with your fierce hawtness, Michelle. As someone else noted, our new president seems to be afflicted with the deadly Black Without Rhythm syndrome, but that's actually kind of cool. After all, just as black Americans can finally watch one of their own become president, so too can American nerds, of all races, since we've now got a guy who dances awkwardly, makes references to Star Trek and used to collect Spider-Man comics, who's now in charge of the country. In short, TIME HAS COME FOR REVENGE OF THE NERDS!!! ... Goddamn, that last scene always chokes me up.

Oh, neocons ... your desperation reeks of stale sweat, cigarettes and defeat. This is PARTICULARLY moronic given that the oath of office is purely ceremonial. According to the Constitution, Barack Obama became president about two verses into Aretha Franklin's song, at precisely noon Washington D.C. time January 20. The Constitution does not note that the oath must be taken, nor are there any words prescribed. Desperation, pure and simple, from the folks who gave us "terrorist fist jab."

Give them a break, Paul. These people haven't paid attention to the Constitution for eight years, and even before then, they refused to recognize the existence of everything from the 13th Amendment forward, so why should they remember the 20th Amendment now?
Of course, even if this was true, what the fuck do they think would happen? Do they honestly believe that the presidency, like the Miss America pageant, is something that you can lose on such a small technicality, and that the title would then automatically revert to the next runner-up, or something? Obama not being president would give us President BIDEN, not President McCain, you dumbasses. Next thing you know, they'll be trying to say Obama posed for Penthouse, because that lost Vanessa Williams HER title.

Anyone watch the Colbert Report? How are they handling the transition to Obama?
While it would make sense for Colbert to continue the whole Fox News-esque slant of his on-air character and hate on Obama, it would be kind of ballsy if they have Colbert turn around and blindly support Obama, with the same sort of fanatical zeal Colbert's character showed for Bush II.
They could get some decent milage out of Colbert's character having a "Road to Damascus" conversion towards loving Obama and spoofing the admittedly over-the-top devotion Obama has inspired in the masses, filtered through the character's fanatical personality.

Complete downer of a thought on the inauguration:
2 million people filled the streets and the Washington Mall. If, at any point, past or present, 2 million people were there protesting the Iraq or Afghan war, you know what would happen? Those choppers would be filled up by morning.
Likelyhood of that happening, even now?
Zero.
Is it wrong to think this, and then to think "Hey, where the fuck are you people when something that could mean life or death are on the line?"
Maybe it's just me.

If 100,000 didn't do it I doubt two million would.
