OK, figure this is overdue for this forum, a thread discussing the state fo the industry - because hey, why can't everyone have a discussion about it? I think Larsen nailed Joey Q on the head.
When discussing the comics of today, or indeed, the last 15 years or so, the words Short Attention Span theatre come to mind.

I have to admit that while I'm a fan of short contained arcs by specific creators, I wouldn't mind seeing some get longer and lengthier runs on books.
