I really, REALLY like this take on Booster Gold. Even today, it remains as fresh an angle as it was when he was first created.

Not that I don't think you can come up with a good Blue Beetle costume, but I don't think you can do it on Smallville's budget. I submit this evidence as proof. Some think he may have been caught in mid-transformation. Given we've already seen a better version in this clip: I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. You are clearly a better person than me. I've learned to lowball my expectations when it comes to Smallville.

But again, you trust Smallville showrunners. I remain a doubting Thomas when it comes to that breed of animal. Not that I doubt that they have the capability to produce; just their execution.

I don't trust them. I just have evidence that someone did the work.

And...having watched the episode - while all the Booster Gold stuff did work, the Jaime stuff...was a tad underwhelming.

Matsolf really sold Booster - I'm thinking he probably watched some Downey Iron Man to help prep for the part. I would watch him play Booster Gold in a movie based on the character as seen on Smallville. It was great fun. Jaime -- was just kind of there. I hated the armor.

Seeing as I don't feel like making a blog post about it, but I'll talk about Smallville anyway.
The latest episode.
Clark came up with a plan...that worked. That's kind of amazing given his shitty shitty track record in this field. But still, it's a "Homer finally outsmarted someone" type of moment
Now granted, there's a bit of a technicality here; he beat Zod. As a matter of fact, he beat Zod with the exact same (really stupid) method he beat him with the last time - which essentially makes Zod the Smallville equivalent of James Woods on Family Guy.
It's still a surprise to see though.

Oh crap, the finale is going to be a complete trainwreck isn't it?
Now, wait, yes, I mean, it's Smallville and OF COURSE it's going to be a disaster. I actually don't have high hopes for anything like...say, Tom welling in a Superman suit punching a CGI Darkseid through a half dozen buildings or anything, you know, AWESOME like that. That kind of goes without saying.
But looking at all the spoilers and interviews about "the Hero's burden" it's looking increasingly like they are going to end with:
-the whole "Lois and Clark can't be together because of his duties as Superman" thing or... -Large-scale mindwiping to protect the Dual identity - including Lois.
So, basically, FUCKING SUPERMAN II. I'm sorry but that "Hero's Burden" shit has GOT TO GO. "All-Star Superman" was the last fucking word on this holdover Silver-Age Bullshitery of Superman/Lois/Clark triangle, and even *that* was basically a "wink-wink-nod-nod this is complete fucking bullshit". It's time to bury this particular convention in the backyard, seal the grave in concrete and then shoot the whole thing into the sun so it STAYS DEAD.
I hope I'm wrong - but seriously? "Smallville" and "Intelligent twist" DO NOT BELONG IN THE SAME SENTENCE.

OK, the Finale:
Not as bad as I feared it would be (see previous post) but still not what you would call good TV. Which is really par for the course I suppose.
And Cheesy enough that watching it hardened my arteries.
Still better than Superman Returns.

Some little touches I liked (bringing Ashmore back to play Future Olsen, that Matrixy "crouch before flying" bit, the shoutout with Air Force One) but even more moments that made me WTF?
1. Why, oh WHY did they use the Returns suit? 2. Why wait 7 years to finish the ceremony? 3. What was the point of wiping clone-Lex's memories? 4. For that matter, why would he be EEEVIL afterwards? 5. 2018 isn't an election year....
Oh yes... and Smallville Darkseid is a pussy. Clark barely did ANYTHING and the Omegas vanished. At least Bruce Willis had sex to defeat the evil planet.
