Not sure about Slott, but agreed about Waid - aside from Linda Park, pretty much every female character he's written that I can think of, from Sharon Carter in Captain America to Wonder Woman in Kingdom Come, has made me cringe, because his "strong women" tend to be defined by being a) unpleasantly uptight and b) ultimately proven wrong by the alpha males in their lives.

Sure, it's been around longer and has had time to accumulate more readers, but... My comic Primal (art by Hamo) has had over 62,000 readers now. www.myebook.com/account.php?option=ebook_manager&action=listActivePlus another 17,000 over at the original Webcomics Nation site. Does that mean my little comic is more popular than Spider-Man? [/tongue-in-cheek]

Lily Hollister, Harry Osborn's ex-fiancee, has been pregnant for a while now.
Amazing Spider-Man #598 revealed who the father of her unborn child is.
For those of you who were too stupid to guess this one correctly, or too hopeful that the NuSpidey "brain trust" might not descend to such obvious and disgusting levels of suck and fail?
IT'S NORMAN OSBORN, BITCHES.
Go ahead and tell me again how I'm "missing out" by not giving the NuSpidey era a chance. I dare you.

To be fair, it's still not as awful a plot twist as retroactively having Gwen Stacy bang Norman Osborn. It's merely ... lame.

I'm still waiting for the reveal that Norman Osborne is Peter Parker's biological father, and Uncle Ben's death was not a random burglar but rather a contract killing because Ben had found out about it and Norman didn't want him to tell Peter.

You know, I'm still a bit confused - how is the public of the Marvel U dealing with the whole multiple Spider-Man thing? Is there a Daily Bugle article that praises the "Spider-Man Black" of Norman Osborn's Avengers and then condemning "Spidey Classic"? Does the public of the Marvel U even understand that there are two separate Spider-men? I mean, given how generally retarded the civilian population of Marvel America is, I'm not sure they can make this distinction. It must be very confusing for them. Nevermind that this maybe should have been cleared up SIX FUCKING MONTHS AGO.

Just think of how confused they must be by Wolverine! Heck, given that he's a highly ambiguous figure anyway, the presence of a Dark Wolverine in the official Avengers probably doesn't strike anybody as particularly odd.

Epiphany:
Post-OMD Peter Parker = An even lamer Phillip J. Fry, without any of the inherent decency.
Discuss.

You know what's sad? I pulled Spider-Man #75 out of storage while I was messing with some things -- the Howard Mackie-penned conclusion to the Clone Saga.
Let me just repeat those words again so they're clear: HOWARD MACKIE. CLONE SAGA.
And it was, no joking, at least ten times more inspiring and heroic than ANYTHING I've seen come out of Spidey in years.

Paul, I will forgive this because it is just possible that Spider Man has sunk this low, as long as you're talking about stuff after JMS got his hands tied behind his back for his last arc. I'm not reading, I can't be sure.
But just for the record, if you ever find something nice to say about "Richard Ashford"'s Excalibur, I will no longer speak to you.

And it was, no joking, at least ten times more inspiring and heroic than ANYTHING I've seen come out of Spidey in years. It helps that Norman's return was a holy shit moment (seriously, no one saw it coming really) plus it was so far out there that given the bullshit of the Clone Saga, that having Norman be the mastermind as part of a nonsensical Xanathos Roulette scheme designed primarily to drive Peter Parker to madness worked, since who else would go to ALL THAT TROUBLE just to fuck with Spidey? Plus, Mackie seemingly brought his A-Game to the issue, which makes me wonder how much having Bob Harras LITERALLY over his shoulders during the writing process made it so that we got Bob Mackie using his full ass and not his usual half-ass. He definately made Norman a scary ass magnificent bastard in that issue, which helped with the haphazard insertion of him as the Xanathos Roulette mastermind of everything. Had they made it Doctor Octopus (which is what Jurgans wanted) or Harry Osborn (which is what everyone else wanted before Harras over-ruled and demanded Norman instead) it wouldn't have had the "Holy Shit!" nature as the reveal that Norman was alive and behind everything in a deliberate attempt to drive Spidey to madness.

Joe: I'm mostly just thinking everything after JMS pretty much lost control of the franchise, and post-OMD in particular. Although to be fair, pretty much everything going back to Civil War is uniformly awful.
