This place has turned into a ghost town lately.
If you're still here, and you still want to be here, just ... say something, okay?
I'd hate to think that our once-vibrant community is dying out ...

Still here. Just kinda busy in between 60-hour workweeks, the kid's illness, and Kat's pregnancy. But I'm always up for reading people bitching about OMD/BND .

I'm kicking around, just.. haven't really had anything to contribute to any of the conversations.

Same as above - still here, not much to say. I'm starting to think we've lost critical mass.

I still drop by once a day, but my internet access has been drastically reduced in the last couple of days. It's gonna stay that way for about another two weeks or so.

It's just really weird and sad to me that the two places I consider my "homes" online are now struggling to stay going. I'm glad to hear from you all, though.

As for myself, I've been away more than a few days for various reasons, plus I'm a bit forlorn going on my jobhunt right now after submitting the thesis plus I have to prep for defense and an article manuscript. But yeah, I will be posting more, if for no other reason than to overtake Jens again and have the second-highest number of posts on this forum Cheers, Michael

Yeah, I'm more worried about SA than here, really. A lot of people didn't make the move to the new place there while most of us came along here.

Still checking in, buuut...
Some great examples of some issues lately. The Five Questions thread, which had a lot of promise, got halted on both you and Pogue, and well, interest died out. Understandably, you both have a lot going on right now, but a couple of us were waiting, you know?
And that's just kind of an example.
OMDBND has gone on forever, but come on guys, it's repetative. Marvel does something. Everyone complains. Marvel does something. Everyone complains. Marvel does something...etc, etc.
With Facebook and Twitter going on, the dynamic has kind of changed from a check into once in awhile to meh... I'll check in every now and then.
Personally, I came to realization that I hadn't even gone into a comic shop in two months. And hadn't even noticed. Can't stand what Marvel's doing. Can't stand what DC's doing. Not really interested in much else outside of the main two these days. I know it's not cause I've "Grown up." because I'm still reading my old stuff, but, just not really very happy with the recent product. Becoming not much to talk about in the forum.
Although considering how much interest I've gained in webcomics lately...

Getting back to what I said about critical mass, I think part of the problem is the effort-reward levels. If something you put at least some effort into (and I count spending 15 minutes writing a post as "some effort") won't be read by more than a handful of people and generate almost no feedback it rarely feels worth it.
(This is not to rag on anyone; it's just how these things work. You don't get excited by everything that's written by anyone on a forum you frequent, and we have pretty diverse tastes here. I have no interest in Dr. Who, for example, so I generally don't comment on those threads on the rare occasions that I read them.)
The very rare times that I really want to talk about comics I still go here because even if I managed to find another comics-related forum where I felt comfortable I wouldn't be able to participate in discussions there with any regularity since it takes about an extra week for the books to make their way over here meaning I'd either have to face constant spoilers or be a week behind everyone else, which is something that gets old fast. Likewise, if I want recommendations I'll go here first because I know you guys (somewhat at least) so I can to some degree judge how well those recommendations fit my tastes.
But now I'm just rambling. The bottom line is this: there are fewer of us now, and there's no easy natural way for us to grow the forum, meaning it's doomed to die alone and unloved. (Which is no reason to hasten that end, of course. I like this place.)

Understandably, you both have a lot going on right now, but a couple of us were waiting, you know? Seconded, from where I sit. The 5Q thread had potential, but it died a quiet death. And I agree with Jard about the OMG/BAD thread as well. It seems that that is the only thread that anyone still posts in (hi there Kirk), but if I weren't using the "show last 10 posts" function to stay up to date I wouldn't even read those anymore because the OMG/BAD thread has become even more boring than the comics it slams.

I still read the OMD thread, partially because of the ten posts thing, partially because it lets me be vicariously upset about something I don't really care about. Whether that's a good thing or not, I don't know.

Although considering how much interest I've gained in webcomics lately... Let's make a deal: I can start talking about some of the indy books that are interesting me here, and you can start talking about some webcomics? Me, my suspicion is that once I get Planetary 27 in my hands, I'll be done with floppies forever, and just sticking with older material and indy stuff - I'm even considering going towards Flashback Universe and the like. Anyway, I'll have some bigger league posts up by the weekend I hope - I need to work on my jobsearch and other crap. Michael

Mostly I've been perusing some of the old standbys. Something Positive, Order Of The Stick, Girl Genius. Lately I've been adding Evil Inc. Least I could Do and Girls with Slingshots. Starslip Crisis is kind of hit and miss. Haven't really been able to get into Penny Arcade.
Shortpacked is annoying. My Daughter loves VG Cats. I'm kind of enjoying Chopping Block and Looking for Group to an extent...
