I wouldn't be surprised. A lot comes down to who has more influence at DC: Geoff Johns (notorious Barry-lover) or Grant Morrison (the man who invented the concept of BatGod)? Currently it seems to be that Johns has all the influence, to the point that he's getting the chance to reboot Mark Waid's Superman: Birthright origin already (and Waid and Morrison are well-known industry co-conspirators.) Combine that with all the talk that the ending has been heavily, heavily edited, the fact that Morrison and DC editorial don't seem to get along very well, and Johns/DiDio are as tight a duo as Quesada/Bendis, and it really does look like a big editorial-prerogative ending to make Barry look awesome.
The compromise with Grant being that he got to write his "Batman kicks Darkseid's ass BatGod style" scene, with the understanding that it would be redone the next month.

I'd also argue that it's far too early to dig Morrison's grave yet. FC and Batman are indicative of a possible downward slide, but the glorious final issues of All-Star Superman weren't THAT long ago. I must be the only person on Earth who hated everything about All-Star Superman that everyone else loved. It reminded me of all the reasons that I quit ALL comics at the age of eight, and didn't start buying them again until college, not in the least because, at this point, between Mark Millar, Grant Morrison and Bryan Singer, any writer who wants to portray Superman as Jesus But Better needs to be beaten to death with a baseball bat. Then again - as a literary character - I hate Jesus, too, so your mileage may vary. Still, it's sad to me that GARTH FUCKING ENNIS gets Superman better than any of his supposed fan creators, because in Hitman, Garth nailed it in one: "You're the ultimate American immigrant success story. If you can be an American, anyone can." The one line is more powerful to me than TEN THOUSAND lines from Luthor, seeing things from Superman's perspective in ASS, about how OMG NOBLE AND PURE AND OPTIMISTIC AND HOPEFUL Superman is. Ahem, this would be the same Garth Ennis that wrote this, yes? That's kinda super-jesusy to me, Kirk. Might have to add him to the baseball bat list. Second, not everyone WANTS to be American. We like your ideals and whatnot, but we have our own way. Finally, as far as All-Star Superman goes, it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with being a really, really good person. The kind of person we coud be, if we tried. This is a guy who, even knowing he's dying, takes time away from saying goodbye to the love of his life to try and improve the life of one single person. (Issue 10, in case you're curious). We don't need Luthor's speech: He does. That's the point. Michael
