I suppose it's time. But it's been a deeply strange and delightful run, for which I thank you.

Downey is the most bankable star in the bunch, so I would expect him to be played up a bit (especially in the advertising), but Whedon is no stranger to quality ensembles, after all. I suspect we'll start out with Cap being still somewhat shellshocked and hesitant, and then slowly coming unto his own by the end of the movie...setting him up to take charge in Avengers 2 (by which time Downey will likely be out of the picture anyway).

I first noticed Alisa for her excellent Supergirl costume. More recently, she did one of the best Red Sonjas I've ever seen. If she ever does '70s era Saturn Girl, I'm afraid I'll have no choice but to propose marriage... ;D

it would be interesting to see if where Moffat is going with all this is that Amy and Rory are in fact The ORIGINAL time lords, and that River is, in fact, Omega. And the whole thing is one giant paradox. Ooh...which would make Amy and Rory the two "shamed" Time Lords in "The End of Time"? Of course, this business of creating time-duplicates gives the Doctor another possible out for surviving his "death" at Lake Silencio. I have to wonder if, as with "The Rebel Flesh", he actually landed on the planet deliberately, so he could study the technology and possibly make use of it.

After all the build-up and hype, the "Secret Origin of River" was bound to be a little bit of a let-down. It covered all the bases it was supposed to, and Alex Kingston is always great, but I was left with a feeling of, "So that's it, huh?".
Also, I'm having a hard time imagining how this can end well. Even if they get baby Melody back, sooner or later, we know she's going to get snatched up by the Silence, and from there her fate is set. I get that Amy and Rory growing up alongside Mels is in some sense supposed to "compensate" for missing out on raising her, but I don't think the characters can realistically view it that way. It's gonna be a horrible, wrenching loss that will cast a pall over the entire series.
The only way out I can see is if the past somehow gets altered so that either a) Melody is conceived somewhere other than the TARDIS (thus, no reason to kidnap her), or b) is never born at all. Either of which would essentially wipe out River Song, which would be a shame.
Any theories on the significance (if any) of the Doctor wearing a different jacket this episode? Have we skipped ahead a couple of centuries, putting him closer to the moment where the Astronaut kills him in Utah?

There's at least a couple in Swamp Thing, too. But tallying up a list is meaningless. Count the murders too, while you're at it. All that matters is: in the context of the story, is it gratuitous? I don't think it is, in most of Moore's work. It's not something that just gets tossed in for shock value...it's meaningful to the story, and the repercussions are dealt with ("Killing Joke" may be the exception here, and even Moore has expressed mixed feelings about that one).

So, that iconic British hero who periodically regenerates...and the Doctor. ;D Looking forward to the inevitable Timothy Dalton/Rassilon jokes...

It is true that the Avengers can't just coast on the goodwill from the previous movies...they have to re-introduce the characters and win the audience over again. I'm not overly concerned about it, though, because character dynamics and ensemble casts are right in Whedon's wheelhouse.
I'm honestly more worried about the big action stuff. He's never directed anything on this scale before. Making sure everyone gets to shine in the battle scenes is going to be tricky.

Breaking up the marriage doesn't automatically equal restoring the Lois/Superman/Clark triangle. Rumor has it that Superman will be hooking up with Wonder Woman. Which is a thousand times worse, IMHO, but will probably sell a few comics.

Clark Kent is not Superman's critique of humanity. Clark is Superman's self-image. He doesn't think he's anything special. He often feels awkward and out-of-place. He has to tamp those feelings down when he's on the job as Superman -- like a politician, he can never express doubt or fear in public. But as Clark, he can unclench himself, and allow himself to be a little clumsy and dumb, as we all are from time to time. We all have these sides to our personalities...Superman is just better at compartmentalizing.
