From the pictures I've seen it's pretty clear that it's a phallos. Whether it was used for sexual pleasure is another question, but I'm going to assume that Sweden was at the forefront of sexual liberation even then.

My understanding is that such things are always of religious and/or ritual nature if the archaeologists can't figure out what it was for.
This is so obvious, even archaeologists couldn't cover it up. Then again, they might have claimed that it was probably for some naturalistic fertility rite.
I'm sure that American archaeologists would have said that. Luckily, these were Swedish.
